The story of Lina Medina – world’s youngest mother
Lina Medina, born in 1933 in Peru, gained international attention as the youngest confirmed mother in history. At just 5 years old, doctors discovered she was seven months pregnant, and in 1939, she gave birth via C-section to a healthy boy named Gerardo. The identity of the father was never determined, leaving her case shrouded in mystery.
Lina’s extraordinary pregnancy was attributed to a rare hormonal condition causing precocious puberty. Gerardo was raised as Lina’s brother by their grandparents and only learned the truth about his parentage later in life. Despite the challenges of her unique situation, Lina displayed remarkable resilience and went on to marry at age 30, giving birth to her second child at 38.
Lina faced significant financial struggles over the years, but her story remained a testament to her strength. In 2002, she finally received a government grant in recognition of her hardships, providing some relief after decades of adversity.
